Cesena is a beautiful Romagna town on the Emily Way, a few miles inland and a few miles from the foothills.

The town was built in a strategic place, before and during the Middle Ages several battles were fought for the control of it. Dante Alighieri mentioned Cesena, as he stayed there during his exile from Florence. The town gave birth to two Popes (Pio VI Braschi and Pio VII Chiaramonti) and adopted a third one (Pio VIII). For this reason Cesena is also called the “city of the three Popes”.

The XV century Malatesta’s Library is world’s oldest public library and a great treasure, both for the architecture and the preciousness of its manuscripts. The mighty Fortress is an intact masterpiece of military engineering, examined by Leonardo Da Vinci who made a survey of the castle walls for Cesare Borgia (1502). In the XVII century the Ponte Vecchio (already Clement Bridge built on the project of Pietro Carlo Borboni, 1733-1773) was built. The old town center, the historical theater Bonci and several other public buildings and local museums make Cesena a great touristic location.

It is also an occasion to feel the regular pace and style of life of Romagna’s people. The old centre is almost completely closed to traffic, and people young and old stroll by on foot or by bicycle, to and from offices and shops. Visiting Cesena is also a great occasion to enjoy the food and wines of Romagna. For all these reasons, Cesena and its people will remain in the heart of the people who come to visit it.
